Lake Orta is one of the most romantic lakes in Italy! Indeed, this small stretch of water is dotted with charming lakeside villages and is famous for its enchanting island. Here, you can walk along quiet paths that wind around a convent and an ancient church. Its spiritual vocation is also reflected in the nearby Sacred Mount, a natural path that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the lake and its surrounding mountains. Ultimately, it’s an ideal experience for art lovers and those seeking tranquility.
From Lake Maggiore to Lake Orta
First, your day begins when you meet your private driver in Stresa or Baveno, on Lake Maggiore, for a comfortable drive to Orta. Upon arrival, you will meet your licensed tour guide for a walking tour of the charming historical center. Together, you will explore narrow alleys, admire ancient buildings, and discover picturesque corners of this beautiful lakeside village.
Visit to San Giulio Island
Afterwards, you will take a short and scenic cruise by public taxi-boat to San Giulio Island. This tiny island is named after the local patron saint, Julius of Novara, who lived here in the 4th century. Once ashore, you will visit the Basilica of San Giulio, which stands close to the monumental old Seminary, and feel the unique, peaceful atmosphere of the island.
Visit to the Sacred Mount of Orta
In the afternoon, your guide will lead you on a tour of the Sacred Mount of Orta. In 2003, UNESCO added this special nature reserve, spanning over 13 hectares, to its World Heritage List. The natural path gently leads you to the top of Saint Nicholas Mountain, where you’ll find 21 chapels and the Franciscan Convent. From here, you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the entire lake before your driver takes you back to Stresa or Baveno.
You will meet your driver in the lobby of your hotel if it is in Stresa or Baveno downtown. Please let us know the name of your hotel. The tour is always confirmed, even in case of rain. Our company will only contact you if conditions are dangerous. We recommend comfortable dress and shoes
